Being cool has its pros and its cons but taking three years to put out your debut LP is the definition of not playing by anyone’s rules. The Cool Kids laid back style may have some questioning their work ethic but there is an obvious method to the madness. Even without an album, Mikey Rocks and Chuck Inglish are two of the most marketable MCs in the game. With endorsements from Nike, Foot Locker, DC Shoes and a long list of other Fortune 500 co.’s, the Cool Kids have preserved their ethics by not bending to music label authorities while still being relevant in an ever changing music game.

I know we’re already midway through August but here’s a little summer catch up for those of you looking for some new music to download.

1. Second Place – Royce da 5’9″

-All that really needs to be said is Nickel + Primo…a formula that kills it every single time. Success Is Certain is in stores now and is quite good.

2. Random Call – Random Axe

-Two of Detroit’s best young artists (Black Milk & Guilty Simpson) and a Brooklyn legend (Sean Price) came together for one of the best albums of the year, and this was far and away the standout track.

3. ADHD – Kendrick Lamar

-Kendrick’s Section.80 IS the best album of the year so far, hands down.Besides HiiPoWer, I’d say this is the album’s best track, though a case could be made for many others.

4. Nasty – Nas

5. Legendary – Royce da 5’9″

6. High (Featuring Wiz Khalifa & Chiddy Bang) – Big Sean

7. She Don’t Want A Man – Curren$y

-My favorite track off of Weekend At Burnies, great video too.

8. Penny Hardaway (Featuring Ghostface Killah) – The Cool Kids

-Mikey and Chuck straight killin it with the Ghostface feature and an overall dope track.

9. A Kiss – Eminem & Royce da 5’9″

10. Jaws – Greneberg (Roc Marciano, Oh No & The Alchemist)

-Greneberg was short, but very sweet. All three are great producer/MCs, but Madlib’s lil bro Oh No steals the show with this crazy beat straight out of a horror movie.

The Cool Kids fiend basketball. Seriously, everything they make has something to do with basketball. For those of you who have been to a Cool Kids show, was Chuck Inglish wearing a throwback NBA jersey? The answer is probably yes. While they continue to make songs with the same subject, their music does not get any less dope. Here’s the video for their new track “Free Throws”.

Oh you thought there was gonna be new cool kids and I was just gonna let it fall through the cracks? Anyways, today Mr Inglish and Mr Rocks dropped the first single from their Oft-Delayed (is 2 and a half years oft-delayed, or worse?) album, now set to drop next month, When Fish Ride Bicycles.  This track comes almost a year and a half after they premiered the song live, but you know what I always say “Late CD-Qual is better than no CD-Qual”.  Anyways, head over to greenlabelsound.com to download the track for free, or just stream it below.  Enjoy.

Back in April, Lupe announced he was hitting the studio with Asher Roth, B.o.B., Charles Hamilton, J. Cole, Wale, The Cool Kids, Diggy Simmons, Blu and Dosage. He called the group “The All City Chess Club’”. At the time I didn’t think much of it because of the size of the group. To get 10 distinctly different rappers on the same page, producing the same music is nearly impossible. That’s why Wu-Tang is so unique. However, I began to imagine how dope the music that these guys could make together. The names on this list are the top rhymers in the game today and a cohesive effort from them all could net a ridiculous collaboration.

Why am I writing about them now? Today the group just released their first track. A remix of Lupe Fiasco’s I’m Beaming”. Of course the track is just pure fire. The baby of the group Diggy Simmons rips this track. Hopefully there is much much more to come from these guys. Download below.

Late last night Chuck Inglish, one member of the hip-hop duo “The Cool Kids” took to Twitter to announce that they have been release from their former label Chocolate Industries. The reason for the split is because the label was forcing them to make music that they didn’t like. The release will give them a great opportunity to make music that they like and care about. It is the reason that The Cool Kids haven’t come out with any music in the past six months. Hopefully this means we will be seeing some self-produced independent projects. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Kanye guzzle them up and sign them to G.O.O.D.

Nope, that’s not a typo up there, this is real live new music from Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks.  Turns out its produced by legendary drummer-producer Travis Barker (the dude with all the tattoos in Blink-182).  Being as we’ve been in a bit of a drought as far as new Cool Kids tracks, you’ll definitely want to get your hands on this one.
