As the line for Talib Kweli’s free, pre-Thanksgiving Charity Drive/Gutter Rainbows album release show at The Roxy stretched for blocks, the “Man of the People” sat down with LA Stereo.TV to discuss Bow Wow, the hunt for his “My Chain Heavy” verse , and his particular affinity for Cali’s underground artists. Shouts to M-Boogie and lasterio.tv.

Kanye rockin 'lo heat

Hip Hop and fashion have always been inextricably linked. In an industry filled with rags to riches stories, the riches tend to be Gucci,Ralph Lauren,  Louis Vuitton, etc. These high end brands represent exclusivity and garner respect, signifying an artist’s arrival into the realm of ”high society”.

When Snoop wore a Tommy Hilfiger sweatshirt on Saturday Night Live, the sweatshirt sold out the next day, illustrating the power that hip hop artists have over consumer psyche. For better or for worse, rappers can turn a seemingly ordinary article of clothing into an icon.

When Kanye posed for a promotional picture of College Dropout wearing a red Ralph Lauren Polo bear sweater he made the vintage piece a classic. Since the piece is no longer sold in stores, fans have scoured the internet and thrift stores for this iconic sweater. Interested in wearing a part of history? There’s one up for grabs on ebay. It’s preworn but hey, life is all about compromise.
